Friday Snow Special

Last Friday in the D, we got snow, around 5 inches depending on exactly where you were in the region. Today for the second straight Friday, the forecast calls for snow again, anywhere from 4 to 8 inches.

The winter has been mild so far. I suppose it only figures that we couldn't get away with too little snow. Maybe winter is saying, "Michigan, hold my Vernors."

But another thought hit me: are our winters becoming back loaded, so to speak? Growing up, I seem to recall that by about mid November we would see our first significant snow. By March, we'd be happily sliding into spring. Yet the last several years it feels as though Novembers and even Decembers have been relatively warm. Cold and snow have been holding on well into March and April. A couple of years ago, not once but twice, I had snow flurries dancing around me on my morning walks. In May.

Is that just me? Or is there something to that theory? Are winters skewed from what they once were?

Weather Games

Obviously I can't speak for everybody everywhere, but winter had actually been kind of mild here in the D. That is, up until about the end of January.

The last three weeks have felt to me as though winter is acting like a kid towards the end of summer vacation. It saw its time coming to a close and thought, cripes, I gotta get all kinds of fun in the next few days.

We've had snow, rain, ice, freezing temperatures and high winds on a rotating basis. Now this coming week we're forecast to have almost spring like temperatures through Tuesday followed by intense cold after midweek. It looks like an icy Wednesday and more snow Friday.

Look, Winter, it's not our fault you got lazy and forgot the time. Kindly let Spring 2022 have her day, would you?

And So It Begins

Winter, I won't say I loathe you.

Okay, I will say I loathe you.

Detroit had somewhere around an inch of snow over this past Saturday night. They, the famous they, although in this case they are weathermen and they are to be particularly despised, are calling for one to three inches of snow tonight. It seems a bit early in the season for measurable snow just yet, but man proposes and God disposes, right?

Winter and I get along all right when she arrives late and leaves early. She appears to have other ideas for Winter 2021-2022. I do not find that amusing.
