What the Future Brings

Too many people don't want to have a God around. The main reason for that so far as I can tell is that they don't want to be told what to do with their lives. But what's the only other option? Getting ordered about by other people.

Granted, on Earth that's how things are done because there's little way around it. We need a boss on a job, parents in a home, presidents and congresses in government. 

Such is life. My issue is, you're willing to be sent hither and yon by other folks just like you, who are no better than you and will make tremendous mistakes, who you trust as experts merely because they assure you they are, who will make you do things which you do not and of right should not have to do, yet this is seen as a better system than a belief in and reliance on God.

I don't know about you, but if the future depends on humanity doing the right thing, calling our prospects bleak is the most optimistic I can be.

God and Government

One of the typical criticisms of a belief in God is that, what, you just have to do what you're told because He's God? That's a great oversimplification of course, but I won't address that just now. What I will instead address though is what that attitude means within the purely human world.

When the government of the United States dictates something, what do we generally hear? This: you have to do what you're told because, well, democracy. And an awful lot of people won't think beyond that. You opposition folks just have to do it, on the raw authority of those in power.

There's a certain hypocrisy involved there, don't you think? And also a rather profound error.

At least a kind and loving God merits a following. Government, indeed any human construction, being obviously flawed by virtue of their very humanity, doesn't rise to that level. It is subject to make a great many wrong decisions, and it does. Yet we're to treat it as a god. Go figure.

Reason 58,319 That I Don't Get Government

Many of you know that I recently had a book published. As of today I am owed for the first month's royalties. No, I'm not taking everyone out. The sales aren't aren't that impressive, although for one month availability with next to no push I'm happy. And I can't get the money anyway until I give my publisher a W-9. I truly don't understand why I must do that. 

Do you know what the book people need in order to pay me? My address and my Social Security Number. Do you know what information goes on a W-9? My address and Social Security Number. Nothing more. Not another scratch.

Why can't I simply give my publisher that information? Why must there even be such a form? It doesn't make sense; I see absolutely no rhyme nor reason for it.

Oh, I'm sure there's some bit of bureaucratic doggerel somewhere which completely justifies it. Once I hear it I'm sure I will be totally converted to the government's reasoning. I just need to be enlightened.

 

That's sarcasm, by the way. I'm sure the justification will not convince me.

Thomas Sowell opined that, for bureaucracies, it's not about the sanest way to do things. It's about the process and nothing else. He's right. 

Systemic Government

Simply to cut to the chase on this issue, I'm not half so worried about climate change as I am what ours and many other governments might do under its banner. I know that a bright red flag is being waived; we gotta do something now!

The hell we do, quite frankly, especially in light of the fact that virtually everything which comes out of the government and the media are crises. This has nearly always been the case: globalcoolingwarmingclimate panics have been around for decades now. And this is only one example. The entire COVID debacle is another: a crisis was created and then spectacularly mishandled. We're supposed to trust government after that?

Why should we believe for a New York minute that a government (and, I stress, a media) which causes so many problems will magically be the solution this time around? It's hubris, friends, a supreme and self inflating arrogance to think as much. I mean, if we are to believe (I do not, but for the sake of argument) in such a thing as systemic racism, from whence does it come? Government, plain and simple. So the supposed system which oppresses you currently (again, only for argument sake) will not oppress you further if given tyrannically greater power? 

The argument answers itself. But will it, can it in some quarters, be heard?
